LETHAL POWERPLAY LEADS QUEBEC TO VICTORY

Penalties were the downfall of British Columbia on Wednesday morning, as Quebec connected three times on the powerplay on their way to a 6-2 win in the opening game of the 2007 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Kitchener.

Audrey Bélanger-Cournoyer scored four goals for Quebec (1-0) – two coming with the man advantage – and picked up her team’s Player of the Game honour. Marie-Philip Poulin picked up four assists in the win, while Lauriane Rougeau and Ariane Barker added two helpers apiece.

Leslie Oles and Mélodie Daoust also scored for Quebec, who finished 3-for-8 with the man advantage. They will next face Ontario Blue on Thursday night (7:00 p.m. ET).

Kaleigh Fratkin and Alisa Baumgartner scored for British Columbia (0-1), who were outshot 46-20 in the loss. Goaltender Rosanne Wallace, who made 40 saves, was named Player of the Game for B.C., who face Team Atlantic on Thursday morning (10:00 a.m. ET)
