Team Canada got off to a good start at the 2004 World Under 18 Championships in Minsk, Belarus by defeating Sweden 5-0.
Devan Dubnyk posted the shutout by turning away all 17 of the oppositions shots. Right Winger Jean-Michel Rizk opened the scoring at 11:06 of the first period by burying it into a wide open net off a slick pass from Kyle Chipchura.

Calgary native Andy Rogers one timed a power play goal from the point off a great feed from John Lammers to take a 2-0 lead early in the second period.

Liam Reddox battled his way to at least 5 scoring chances and it finally paid off as he tallied 2 goals for the team. Rizk rounded out the scoring with his second goal of the game. Kyle Chipchura, Frederick Cabana and Aaron Gagnon each added 2 assists.

Canada played a strong game as they relentlessly pursued the puck, caused the Swedes to turn over the puck and out hit them 27-17 on there way to their first victory in the tournament.

“It was a good way to open up the tournament. I liked our energy and we set the tone for the rest of the tournament but we still have a long way to go” said Head Coach Dean Chynoweth.

Canada’s next game will be against host team Belarus on Saturday, April 10 at 7pm local time.
