Canada lost 2-1 to the U.S. at the men's world under-18 hockey championship to conclude pool play Tuesday.

Canada finished in second place in Group A with a record of 3-1 behind the U.S. who finished with a perfect record of 4-0.

The Canadians will face the third-place team from Group B in a quarter-final Thursday. TeamCanada’s opponent will be determined following Group B games on Tuesday.

With the win overCanada, Team USA earned a bye for finishing first in the group and automatically advance to the semifinal.

Canada held a 1-0 lead after two periods on a goal by Frederik Cabana of Fleurimont, Que.

But Team USA’s Phil Kessel scored early in the third to tie the game and Brett Bevis scored the winner for the Americans on a power play at 8:13.

Canadian goaltender Devan Dubnyk was pulled with 75 seconds remaining for an extra attacker, but Canada was unable to get the equalizer, losing 2-1.
