The awards have continued to accumulate for Hayley Wickenheiser.
The captain of Canada’s National Women’s Team was formally presented with the Bobbie Rodenfeld Award during the team’s pre-worlds camp in Colwood, BC just under two weeks ago. Donna Spencer of Canadian Press, whose members vote each year for a winner, delivered a plaque to Wickenheiser at a Team Canada practice.
The award, handed out annually since 1933 (it was re-named the Bobbie Rosenfeld award in 1950), has only gone to an athlete from a team sport once before.
Cindy Klasses, Catriona Le May Doan and Lorie Kane are past winners.
And earlier this week, Wickenheiser cracked a top-25 list of the toughest athletes, which was put together by Sports Illustrated.
Wickenheiser and her Team Canada teammates take on China on Sunday in the final round-robin game for both teams at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Championship.
