2011 RBC Cup

Camrose Kodiaks 2 - Pembroke Lumber Kings 1

JEWITT SCORES LATE WINNER, KODIAKS CLINCH SECOND

CAMROSE, Alta. – Tyler Jewitt scored the game-winning goal on a power play with 6:28 to go as the Camrose Kodiaks locked up second place in the preliminary round at the 2011 RBC Cup with a 2-1 win over the Pembroke Lumber Kings on Wednesday night.

The Camrose win also means the Vernon Vipers will finish first regardless of the result of their preliminary round finale against Pembroke on Thursday night. The Vipers improved to 3-0 with a win over Wellington in Wednesday’s early game.

Tanner Dion scored the other goal for Camrose (3-1), while Sam Jardine added a pair of assists. The Kodiaks will have the chance Saturday to advance to the championship game for the fifth time in six all-time trips to the National Junior A Championship.

Jonathan Milley scored his tournament-leading fourth goal for Pembroke (1-2), which will need a win over Vernon in its preliminary round finale on Thursday (7:30 p.m. MT) or a win by Portage in the day’s early game in order to advance.

A Pembroke loss and Wellington win would leave all three teams at 1-3, which would necessitate a series of tie-breaking procedures to determine third and fourth place.
