BRONCOS INTO SEMIFINALS AFTER DOMINANT WIN OVER CRUSHERS

CORNWALL, Ont. – The Schroeder brothers – Scott and Steven – combined for four points as the Humboldt Broncos clinched a spot in the semifinals at the 2008 RBC Cup with a 4-1 win over the Pictou County Crushers on Thursday afternoon in the final preliminary round game for both.

While the Broncos know they’ll be among the final four, the Crushers will have to wait for the result of Thursday’s preliminary round finale between Camrose and Oakville to know if they’ll play on the weekend.

Steven Schroeder led the way with a pair of goals, both coming off set-ups from twin brother Scott. Mitchell Stretch and Matthew Kirzinger had the other goals for the Broncos, who scored the only three goals of the second period to break open a tie game.

Captain Scott Lavigne had the lone goal for Pictou County, converting on a power play late in the first period to briefly tie the game 1-1. Alexandre Quessy was the story for the Crushers, making 42 saves as Humboldt held a 46-26 advantage in shots on goal.

Steven Schroeder’s two-goal performance earned him Player of the Game honours for the Broncos, while Lavigne took home the award for the Crushers.
