KODIAKS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF LATE POWER PLAYS TO PULL OUT WIN OVER BRONCOS

CORNWALL, Ont. – Joe Colborne and Dylan Olsen scored goals on the power play in the final 8:25 as the Camrose Kodiaks stayed perfect at the 2008 RBC Cup with a 2-1 win over the Humboldt Broncos on Monday afternoon in the marquee match-up of the preliminary round.

The win moves the Kodiaks to 2-0 in the preliminary round and all but assures them a place in Saturday’s semifinals. Camrose is now an impressive 9-1 all time in preliminary round play at the National Junior A Championship, spanning three appearances.

Allen York made 25 saves in goal for the Kodiaks, who beat Humboldt for the second time in three all-time meetings – Camrose earned a 5-3 preliminary round win at the 2003 Royal Bank Cup, but the Broncos returned the favour with a 3-1 victory in that year’s championship game.

Dane Lindskog scored the lone goal for Humboldt, which lost for the first time since a Game 4 defeat at the hands of the Kindersley Klippers in the SJHL final, a span of nine games.

Taylor Nelson made 26 saves in a losing cause in the Broncos net. Camrose outshot Humboldt 28-26 overall.

The goaltenders, York and Nelson, were rewarded for their strong games with Player of the Game honours for their respective team.
