What training is required?

The Hockey Canada Intro to Officiating online course is the first step in becoming an on-ice official. The goal of this course is to provide you with the knowledge to start building your officiating skills. Upon completion of this program, you will have a fundamental understanding an official’s role and responsibilities, procedures and duties, and technical rules. At this point, you will be ready to register with your Hockey Canada Member and complete your certification as a Level 1 or Level 2 official.

After completing the Hockey Canada Intro to Officiating Course, officials are required to register with their provincial Member and complete the certification requirements for an on-ice official. Member certification may include classroom learning, on-ice instruction, and online learning.
