HOST 0 PACIFIC 4 Round Robin By/Par: Graeme Kishiuchi In the last game of the round robin portion of the tournament, the Edmonton SSAC Athletics took on the Gatineau Intrepide. With the seeding already settled, this game had no bearing on the semi-finals. The period was played at a tame pace, with Gatineau having the edge in chances. The Athletics didn’t get their first shot until the 14 minute mark, and Adam Ross made it count as he beat Harry Hurst five-hole to make it 1-0. Edmonton didn’t need to shoot to get their second goal, as the Intrepide’s Simon Danis-Pepin made a back pass during a breakout and it slipped past everybody, including Hurst, to make it 2-0 Athletics, with them being out shot 9-1 in the period. Edmonton started the second period well, finding success on an early power play when Mark Krupicz scored from the point to make it 3-0 Athletics at 1:49 into the period. Gatineau’s self destruction continued as Edmonton owned most of the play despite being shorthanded for most of the period. The Intrepide out shot the Athletics 15-12 in the period, but most of the close calls came near the Intrepide net. The third period was more of the same for the Intrepide, as the struggled badly to find their form. The teams started a steady stream to the penalty box, but with no real chances coming from the man advantages. Half way through the period, the Athletics put together a great three way passing play, from Krupicz to Garrett Meger to Taylor Fedun who finished it off to give the athletics a 4-0 lead. Gatineau never mounted much of threat as Keanan Boomer shut the door, making every save look routine. The Athletics earned their first win of the TELUS Cup and the Intrepide lost their third in a row going into the semi-finals. The Player of the Game for the Athletics was Mark Krupicz (1 goal, 1 assist) and for Gatineau, François Lebeau.
