2009 TELUS Cup

Rousseau Sports de Laval-Bourassa 4 - Notre Dame Hounds 5

GAMACHE SCORES HAT TRICK TO LEAD HOUNDS TO WIN

SELKIRK, Man. – The first win is in the books for the Notre Dame Hounds at the 2009 TELUS Cup.

Hounds captain Ben Gamache scored three times and the West Region champions weathered a late storm to score a 5-4 win over the Rousseau Sports de Laval-Bourassa on Tuesday afternoon at the Selkirk Recreation Complex.

Gamache’s hat trick marker gave his team a 5-2 lead with 5:06 to go, but late goals from Antony Courcelles and Sean Girard made for another exciting finish – three of the four games thus far at the national championship have been 5-4 finals, and the fourth was a 4-4 tie.

Brad Cuzner and Lucas Froese also scored for the Hounds, who have a win and a tie to show from their two games at the National Midget Championship thus far and face Moncton (0-1) on Wednesday afternoon (4 p.m. CT). Christopher Gibson – the tournament’s only Finnish-born player – made 31 saves for the victory in the Notre Dame goal.

Courcelles finished with a pair of goals for the Rousseau Sports and Sébastien Bergeron picked up his second in as many games as the Quebec Region champions fell to 1-1, with a game against Hamilton (0-1) on tap for Wednesday morning (11 a.m. CT).
