2007 National Women's Under-18 Championship

Alberta  2 -  Manitoba  7

GOALS COME ‘NATURAL’ FOR BESTLAND IN MANITOBA WIN

Christine Bestland scored a natural hat trick, including the game-winner midway through the second period, and finished with four goals as Manitoba topped Alberta 7-2 on Thursday afternoon at the National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

Bestland – who picked up Player of the Game honours – scored her first goal at the 9:13 mark of the middle frame, less than four minutes after Saige Pacholok had pulled Alberta even at 2-2, and added goals at 12:57 of the second period and 0:49 and 9:59 of the third period as Manitoba (1-1) got back to the .500 mark at this year’s U18 Women’s Nationals.

Breann Frykas scored twice and Bailey Bram rounded out the scoring in the Manitoba win, which set up a crucial game against Ontario Red on Friday night, in what has the potential to be one of the classic games of the tournament.

Player of the Game Kendice Ogilvie joined Pacholok on the scoresheet for Alberta (0-2), who are still alive in the chase for a Saturday semi-final spot. They wrap up their round robin against Saskatchewan on Friday morning (10:00 a.m.).
