In front of a packed-house at the Capital News Center team Canada opened the 2007 World Sledge Hockey Challenge with a tilt against the Americans.
After a score-less opening frame the Canadians ran into some penalty trouble and dodged a bullet holding the Americans off the score sheet after taking three straight penalties. Canada finally gave the home-town crowd something to cheer about with just 21 seconds remaining in the second stanza Bradley Bowden picked up a loose biscuit in a goal-mouth scramble and deposited the puck past US goaltender Steve Cash who was down and out.
Canada made it 2-0 at 3:14 of the final stanza when Marc Dorion found the back of the net on a one timer that beat American goaltender Steve Cash. The Americans then got on the board at the 13:08 mark of the third thanks to a Corbin Beu tally, however just 11 seconds later the Canadians put the game on ice courtesey of an un-assisted goal from Greg Westlake.
The Canadians now get set to host the Norwegians tomorrow night at 19:00 while the Americans will tackle the Germans at 16:30, both tilts are at the Capital News Center in Kelowna, B.C..
