CANADA FALLS TO U.S. IN DEVELOPMENT SERIES OPENER

AMHERSTBURG, Ont. – Tyler McGregor (Forest, Ont.) opened the scoring near the midway point of the second period, but three unanswered goals by the United States doomed Canada’s National Sledge Development Team in a 3-2 loss to the Americans on Thursday afternoon.

The game was the first of a three-game series between the North American rivals at the UCCU Complex; they’ll meet Friday at noon ET before wrapping up the series with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop on Saturday night.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Canadians got on the board 7:48 into the second period when Alain Bazinet (Ottawa, Ont.) set up McGregor for a 1-0 lead.

But the Americans would pull even very late in the middle frame, with Mason Newbold scoring at 19:20, and goals from Jeremy Lyon and Josh Wirt in the third game the U.S. a lead it would not relinquish.

Brendan Blanchard (Chatham, Ont.) rounded out the scoring for Canada with just 11 seconds remaining, but that would be as close as the Canadians would get, dropping their first game in seven all-time match-ups with the Americans.
