Red 8 - White 3

RED FINISHES INTERSQUAD SWEEP WITH ROMP OVER WHITE

CALGARY, Alta. – Make it three for three for Team Red at the National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp.

Jaden Schwartz (Wilcox, Sask./Notre Dame, SJHL) scored twice and John McFarland (Richmond Hill, Ont./Sudbury, OHL) added a goal and two assists as Red routed Team White 8-3 in the intersquad finale on Tuesday afternoon.

Red swept the three games, outscoring White 17-8 in the process.

Despite Gregg Sutch (Newmarket, Ont./Mississauga, OHL) opening the scoring for White six minutes in it was Red who led after 20 minutes, getting goals from Schwartz, Tyler Toffoli (Scarborough, Ont./Ottawa, OHL) and Cédrick Henley (Val-d’Or, Que./Val-d’Or, QMJHL) for a 3-1 advantage.

Schwartz, McFarland, Michaël Bournival (Shawinigan-Sud, Que./Shawinigan, QMJHL) and Mark Stone (Winnipeg, Man./Brandon, WHL) all added goals in the second period as Red surged to a 7-2 lead, despite being outshot 24-22 through 40 minutes. Sutch added his second for White in the middle frame.

Brandon Gormley (Murray River, P.E.I./Moncton, QMJHL) and Ryan Spooner (Kanata, Ont./Peterborough, OHL) traded goals in the third period as the 40 players in camp auditioned for the final time for a spot on the 22-player roster that will play in the 2009 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka.

The final roster will be announced Tuesday afternoon, and the team will depart for Europe on Wednesday.
