WICKENHEISER GETS WINNER AS RED BEATS ROYALS

CALGARY, Alta. – Hayley Wickenheiser's fifth goal in three games was the winner as Red earned a split of its games against Midget competition at Canada's National Women's Team September Camp/Fall Festival with a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Royals Midget AAA boys team on Saturday.

Red previously dropped a 7-5 decision to the Calgary Northstars Midget AAA boys team on Thursday night.

Catherine Ward (Montreal, Que./Montreal, CWHL) and Jennifer Wakefield (Pickering, Ont./Boston University, HE) also scored goals for Red, while Wickenheiser (Shaunavon, Sask./University of Calgary, CWUAA) added an assist for her third-straight two-point effort.

Two nights after allowing seven goals in its loss to the Northstars, Red gave up just 19 shots on goal against the Royals, four in the third period when it nursed a one-goal lead for the final 15 minutes. Christina Kessler (Mississauga, Ont./Burlington, CWHL) made 17 saves to record the win in the Red goal.

Mitchell Collett and Angus Johnston both scored unassisted goals to account for the Royals' offence.

Red will look for a sweep of the intersquad games at camp when it takes on White on Sunday morning (9:30 a.m. MT). Red scored a 4-3 victory in the camp opener on Wednesday night.
