COLD LAKE, Alta. – Robert Mastrosimone scored a goal and set up another, leading the United States to a 3-1 pre-tournament win over Canada East in pre-World Junior A Challenge action on Friday night.

Bobby Brink and Connor Caponi had first-period goals for the Americans, who finished with a comfortable 38-25 advantage in shots on goal. Isaiah Saville and Blake Pietila split the goaltending duties for the U.S., finishing with 15 and nine saves, respectively.

Owen Cole (Dunnville, Ont./Ottawa, CCHL) had the lone goal for the Canadians, who get their tournament started in the curtain-raiser Sunday against Russia (2 p.m. MT). The Americans see the ice first Sunday night (7 p.m. MT), facing Canada West in a rematch of the 2017 gold medal game.
