Game Story

B.C. BLANKS SASKATCHEWAN TO OPEN U18 NATIONALS

Reece Hunt (Nelson, B.C./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) scored the first goal of the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Quebec City, leading her team to a 2-0 win over Saskatchewan.

Hunt rifled a pass from Sophie Lalor (Penticton, B.C./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) past Saskatchewan goaltender Jordan Ivanco (Saskatoon, Sask./Saskatoon SFMAAAHL) at 8:46 in the first period, recording what would become the eventual game-winner.

Hunt added to her points with an assist as Chanreet Bassi (Lake Country, B.C./Delta Hockey Academy, CSSHL) found the back of the net with a wrist shot at 3:05 of the second period.

B.C. led the game in shots-on-goal; Saskatchewan netminder Ivanco made 30 saves, while B.C.’s Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, B.C./Thompson, OMAHA) stopped 28 shots to earn the shutout.
