CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Sunday the 13 players selected to join the 27 centralized with Canada’s National Women’s Team for Canada’s National Women’s Program Red-White Series, Aug. 21-24 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

The nine forwards, three defencemen and one goaltender were chosen following Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp, held Aug. 9-17 at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

The 40 players will be split into two teams for the three-game Red-White series: Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. MT, Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. MT and Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. MT.

The 13 players from Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp were assembled by Melody Davidson, general manager of Canada’s National Women’s Team Programs, Hockey Canada’s head coach Tim Bothwell (Calgary, Alta./Calgary, CWHL) and assistant coaches Delaney Collins (Pilot Mound, Man./Mercyhurst University, CHA) and Amanda Benoit-Wark (Welland, Ont./Ridley College, NAPHA).

“As with any Team Canada roster there were many difficult decisions,” said Bothwell. “The 40 players at camp all worked extremely hard, performed well and maintained terrific attitudes throughout a physically and mentally demanding week. We are confident the 13 players selected will represent themselves and Canada’s National Women’s Development Team well in the three-game Red-White series this week.”

The 13 players chosen from Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp include:

  • two players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18-Team at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship in Heinola/Vierumaki, Finland (Krzyzaniak, Newell);
  • eight players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team at the 2013 Meco Cup in Füssen, Germany (Ambrose, Bestland, Edney, Lefort, Rattray, Saulnier, Stacey, Terry).

The 13 players chosen from Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp, by province:

  • Manitoba – two (Bestland, Krzyzaniak)
  • British Columbia – one (Newell)
