HERNING, Denmark – Hockey fans can own an exclusive piece of Canada’s National Men’s Team by bidding on their favourite player’s game-worn jersey from the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark.

The Hockey Canada Foundation will launch its 2018 IIHF World Championship eBay.ca auction at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 15, closing the evening of Sunday, May 20 at 8 p.m. ET. Shipment of the items to the winning bidders will begin the week of June 25 for paid items.

The mission of the Hockey Canada Foundation is to promote and make the game accessible to all Canadians from coast-to-coast-to coast, while growing the game from the grassroots level and ensuring fans of all levels can participate in their community.

“Owning a piece of Team Canada while supporting initiatives that allow us to help those play the game makes it possible for us to remain at the forefront in bringing the sport to all Canadians,” said Donna Iampieri, executive director of the Hockey Canada Foundation. “Hockey fans are passionate and united in cheering for the red-and-white. It’s that love of the game and their generosity that ensures everyone who wants to play the game can play.”

In five games at the world championship, Canada is fourth in the Group B standings with 10 points. Preliminary-round games wrap up May 15 with Canada still to face Latvia and Germany. Canada is on a quest for its third gold medal in four years, winning back-to-back in 2015 and 2016. Since 1931, Canada has won the world championship 20 times – not counting the years when the gold-medallist at the Olympic Winter Games was also considered world champion. Canada has also collected 12 silver and six bronze medals in that timespan.

Hockey Canada Foundation

The Hockey Canada Foundation is committed to growing the game while leaving a legacy for future generations. The annual Gala & Golf is being hosted in London, Ont., June 18-19, 2018, and will leave 50 per cent of its net proceeds within the host community and surrounding region as a legacy. To date, the event has raised approximately $4 million since 2009 – including more than $650,000 at the 2017 Hockey Canada Foundation Gala & Golf in Saskatoon.

The two-day event features a star-studded gala where Canada’s national teams who have won gold at IIHF events throughout the season – including Canada’s National Junior Team that won gold at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y., in January – are honoured alongside this year’s Order of Hockey in Canada Distinguished Honourees: Mike Babcock, Danielle Goyette, and Ryan Smyth. A celebrity golf tournament follows on June 19.
