A new school year means new Hockey Canada Skills Academy (HCSA) programs!

Two schools from the Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l'Est ontarien (CSDCEO) have hit the ice for the first time. The Intermediate division of the École secondaire catholique Le Relais, in Alexandria, Ont., as well as the Intermediate division of the École secondaire catholique L’Escale and the École secondaire catholique L’Escale itself, both in Rockland, Ont., have gotten underway in the past few weeks.

“The program is great because it develops not only the hockey skills, but also the interpersonal skills of our student-athletes,” said Marc-André Proulx, program coordinator for the CSDCEO, who added he was very pleased to see so many participants in the various programs. “Right from the start, we have been telling them that, through hockey, they will become better people.”

HCSA programming differs from one school to the other. In secondary schools, integrated subjects are taught in two courses. For Intermediate divisions, school teams collaborate either through chosen activities or programs such as Sports+.

With smiles on the faces of the students and a hockey stick in their hands, learning is going well!
