Hockey Canada provides Action Plan update

September 21, 2022
|

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada is committed to fostering a safe and positive environment where Canadians can experience all the benefits of our national sport. Through its Action Plan, Hockey Canada is committed to doing the work to eliminate maltreatment in sport and regain the trust of Canadians.

In the coming weeks, Hockey Canada will receive recommendations arising from the governance review that is being conducted by the Honourable Thomas Cromwell, C.C.

Hockey Canada will then announce the appointment of a Special Committee on Action Plan Implementation, which was originally scheduled to be announced on Sep. 15. This postponement enables the organization to understand the scope and content of the recommendations arising from the governance review and ensure that the necessary expertise is in place to monitor and report on the overall implementation of the Action Plan.

Over the past several weeks, Hockey Canada has made meaningful progress on its Action Plan, including:

  • The appointment of the Hon. Thomas Cromwell, C.C., to lead the independent third-party governance review;
  • Establishing an independent third-party complaint mechanism;
  • The implementation of enhanced and mandatory training for national team players, coaches and staff; and
  • Working to amend relevant internal policies and procedures to position the organization to adopt the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport 6.0.

Hockey Canada will continue to provide updates on our progress as we work to foster a safe and positive environment on and off the ice.
