CALGARY, Alta. – Canada’s National Sledge Team is gathering at the MasterCard Centre in Etobicoke, Ont., from Oct. 26-31, for the first of three planned training camps this season. Twenty players will take part in the camp, in preparation for the upcoming season.

In addition to Canada’s National Sledge Team roster that was announced Oct. 4, goaltender Kris Dutkiewicz (Kitchener, Ont.) has been added to the training camp roster.

The roster includes 15 players who helped Canada win a silver medal at the 2015 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championship in Buffalo, N.Y. (Arsenault, Block, Bowden, Bridges, Delaney, Dixon, Dorion, Gemmell, Larocque, McGregor, Sholomicki, Sorley, Watson, Westlake, Whitson).

“We’ve had two strong camps in Calgary in the last two months, where we’ve been able to evaluate players” said Ken Babey, head coach of Canada’s National Sledge Team. “We look forward to getting on the ice in Etobicoke and continuing our preparation for the 2015 World Sledge Hockey Challenge, and our other tournaments this season.”

This will be the first of three training camps for Canada’s National Sledge Team this year. One camp will be held in Ottawa in November, and one is scheduled for Calgary in February.

Media and fans are welcome to watch practices at the MasterCard Centre as players and staff will be available for interviews after every on-ice session. It will be the only time this year that Canada’s National Sledge Team will be in the Toronto area for on-ice sessions. (MasterCard Centre, 400 Kipling Ave., Etobicoke, Ont.)

Canada’s National Sledge Team will be competing in several international tournaments this season, including the 2016 World Sledge Hockey Challenge from Jan. 17-23 at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in Bridgewater, N.S.

The team will announce its roster for the December competition in Turin, Italy, a few weeks before the start of the event.
