HCLL - Hockey Canada Coach 1 - Developing Skills - Tight Turning - Tendency

Some of the negative tendencies with tight turns is that players come out of their hockey stance and get to upright which promotes a wide turn. Sometimes players only turn with one blade on the ice, either their inside or their outside edge. Be sure players have both feet on the ice, so they are fully gliding with both feet and in a good, strong hockey position. Another tendency is that a player just doesn't look to where they're going, and we know we rotate top down from the head to the shoulders to the hips. Encourage players to look in the direction they want to turn. It's just going to take them there quicker.
