Mayor Peter Kelly Announced As Honorary Captain of Halifax Oland Exports

Halifax, NS - Halifax Oland Exports Coach Jim Bottomley will appoint Mayor Peter Kelly Honourary Team Captain today. The Halifax Oland Exports are the host team for the Royal Bank Cup, Canada's National Junior "A" Hockey Championship, taking place May 4 - at the Halifax Forum.

Mayor Kelly will officially open the Royal Bank Cup on May 4, and has declared May 4 - 12 as Royal Bank Cup Week in Halifax Regional Municipality.

"Teams and fans from across Canada will have an opportunity to experience first-class hockey and hospitality in Halifax," said Kelly. "The Royal Bank Cup is here now, and the Halifax Oland Exports will ensure it stays here."

The Royal Bank Cup will also feature a lively entertainment venue. The Lobster Trap will include performances by Jimmy Flynn, Signal Hill, Blueberry Grunt and Clam Chowder throughout the tournament.

"There are 71 days left on the Road to the Royal Bank Cup," says Event Chair Chris Larsen. "The Halifax Oland Exports and the four regional champions competing in the Cup promise to make this an unforgettable championship."

The Halifax Oland Exports have nine games left in the season before beginning MJAHL playoffs and hosting the Royal Bank Cup in May. They are currently ranked #1 in the MJAHL with a 32-7-4-2 record and 6th in the nation.

Oland Exports Head Coach Jim Bottomley said, "We have assembled a skilled, fast, hard hitting team that can compete on a national basis for the Royal Bank Cup. We are excited about and ready for the opportunity to be a part of this prestigious tournament."
