CALGARY, AB – From January 15-19, 2007, Canada’s National Women’s Team will be hosting an evaluation camp in Calgary for twenty-two players that are under consideration for the 2007 IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championship. These 22 players at this camp in Calgary are part of a larger pool of players under consideration for the World Championship roster. This camp is part of a continuous evaluation process throughout the season, using various players at different camps and events, as well as monitoring the players with their respective club teams.

The 22 players attending this Evaluation Camp this week at Calgary’s Father David Bauer Olympic Arena are not the only players under consideration for the World Championship roster which will be announced in March 2007.

Admission to all practices during the camp, as well as the 4-on-4 game on Friday morning, is free of charge. Admission to all games against Calgary-area Midget AAA teams will be by donation. All donations will go to Girls Hockey Calgary.

NOTE: ROSTER CHANGE – Cherie Piper (Scarborough, ON/ Dartmouth College, ECAC) who was announced as part of the Calgary camp roster on November 30th will not be able to attend the camp due to a knee injury. Head Coach Melody Davidson announced that Chelsea Grills (Ottawa, ON/ St. Lawrence University, ECAC) will take her place.

Canada’s January 2007 evaluation camp in Calgary marks another step in the process towards naming Canada’s roster for the 2007 IIHF World Women’s Championship which will be in Winnipeg, Manitoba from April 3-10, 2007.

The coaching staff has not released or cut any players this season and will continue to monitor and evaluate a large pool of potential players prior to the naming of a final World Championship roster in March 2007. Not all players under consideration for the World Championship are attending this evaluation camp in Calgary.

Canada’s World Championship roster will be made up of players that have played with the National Women’s Program or the Under-22 Program at some point during the 2006-07 season (Fall Festival, 4 Nations Cup, Evaluation Camp, Under-22 events).

The coaching staff, along with Head Scout Wally Kozak, will continue to evaluate players over the coming months, at this Calgary National Women’s Team Evaluation Camp and with the players’ respective club teams prior to naming the World Championship Roster in March.

The 2007 IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championship will be held in Winnipeg, MB from April 3-10, 2007.
