HALIFAX, NS – Dany Heatley (Calgary, AB/Ottawa, NHL) became the all-time points leader for Canada’s National Men’s Team on Sunday, May 4th at the 2008 IIHF World Championship.

Heatley and Team Canada defeated Latvia 7-0 in front of a boisterous crowd at the Halifax Metro Centre. Heatley’s assist on Rick Nash’s goal at 12:20 of the second period gave Heatley 40 points all time with Canada. That moved him into first place, one point ahead of Steve Yzerman, who is Team Canada’s general manager at the 2008 IIHF World Championship.

Heatley came into the tournament with 32 points, seven behind Yzerman, but has registered eight points in two games.

Canada (2-0) will return to action on Tuesday, as it faces Team USA (3:30 p.m. ET, 4:30 p.m. ADT) at the Metro Centre. A win would give Canada Seed 1 in Pool B heading into the qualification round.
