2005 IIHF Ice Hockey Junior World Championship

Team Red 2 – Team White 3

The first intersquad game of the National Junior Team Development Camp took place Monday night as Team Red faced-off against Team White in a battle of Canada’s top junior aged players.

Team White got off to a dominating start and capitalized on their first powerplay of the game as Ryan Getzlaf buried a rebound at 15:24 of the 1st period. Team White continued to apply the offensive pressure and at 5:14 of the 2nd period Getzlaf netted his second goal of the night after a nice feed from David Bolland. Nigel Dawes added to Team White’s lead at 1:15 of the 2nd, giving his team a 3-0 lead going into the final period.

The high intensity battle continued in the 3rd period and it favoured Team Red as Team White was undisciplined and took 5 penalties allowing Red to go on the offense and build momentum. Team Red’s perseverance and discipline paid off just past the midway mark of the period as Stephen Dixon notched a powerplay goal at 8:03 of the third. With time winding down, and their goalie on the bench, Team Red pulled to within one goal as Jeff Carter connected at 1:29 of the 3rd. However, it would not be enough as Team White held off Team Red’s last minute attack for the 3-2 victory.

Réjean Beauchemin picked up the win as he was solid in goal, making big saves throughout the game for Team White. Despite suffering the loss Ryan Munce stood strong as he came up big in the third keeping his team in the game.

Guest coaches for the game included Flames head Coach Darryl Sutter and assistant coach Rich Preston.

The next National Junior Team Development Camp intersquad game will take place Wednesday night at 6:00pm local time.
