CANADA TO PLAY FOR BRONZE AFTER LOSING TO FINLAND IN SEMIS

ANGLEHOLM, SWEDEN -- Canada's Under 18 World Championship team lost 3-2 to Finland in overtime in Thursday's semi-final game, and will now play for a bronze medal on Saturday.

Canada opened the scoring, when Francois Bouchard scored 13:32 into the first period to take a 1-0 lead after the first.

With Canada's Justin Azevedo in the penalty box for tripping, Finland scored on the power play at 4:45 into the second period to tie the game at 1-1.  Canada took the lead again, this time with Ben Maxwell finishing the play, with assists from Bouchard and Cory Emmerton at 8:33, to make the score 2-1 after two periods of play.

Finland tied the game at 2-2 at 2:06 of the third period, when Joonas Jalvanti took a shot from the point that when over the glove hand shoulder of Canada's goaltender Jonathan Bernier.

Only 1:22 into overtime, Finland wrapped the puck around Bernier's net and slipped the puck past the goaltender's skate and post, to take a 3-2 overtime win for Finland and advance them to the gold medal game on Saturday.  With the loss, Canada moves onto the bronze medal game on Saturday, playing the loser of the USA/Czech Republic semi-final game which is played later today.
