Julien Gauthier had a hat trick and two assists for a five-point night, and Julien Nantel added two goals and two helpers as the Rousseau Royal clinched first place in the preliminary round by routing the host North Stars.

Kolten Olynek scored a hat trick and added an assist to take over the tournament scoring lead, and Vukie Mpofu had a goal and two helpers to help the Contacts rout the Wildcats and ensure their spot in the semifinals.

Ryan Kuffner scored on the power play early in the third period and Simon Hofley made 55 saves in the Jr. 67’s goal to help keep Ottawa’s semifinal hopes alive, while the Chiefs advanced to the weekend with the single point.

Sault Ste. Marie 1 – Saskatoon 1 | Preliminary | Thu. Apr. 25

Matt Pinder and Kolten Olynek traded goals, but it was the goaltenders who stole the show, with Contacts netminder Rylan Parenteau making 35 saves and North Stars counterpart Brian Kment turning away 32 shots in a draw.

Laval-Montréal 4 – Ottawa 3 | Preliminary | Thu. Apr. 25

Marc-Antoine Germain’s second goal of the game with 9:26 left was the winner as the Rousseau Royal won its third in a row by erasing a third-period deficit. Massimo Carozza and Jean-Christophe Bergeron had the other goals.

Jody Sick scored twice and added an assist, and Jacob Schofield and Jordie Lawson had a goal and a helper apiece to lead the Chiefs over the winless Wildcats and end a brief two-game winless streak for the Pacific champions.

Ottawa 6 – Sault Ste. Marie 1 | Preliminary | Wed. Apr. 24

Matthew Hudson had a hat trick and Medric Mercier scored a pair of power play goals for the second day in a row as the Jr. 67’s handed the host North Stars their first loss of the tournament and moved into a tie for first place.

Red Deer 5 – Saskatoon 5 | Preliminary | Wed. Apr. 24

Kolten Olynek and Rodney Southam scored late and the Contacts battled back in a game they trailed 2-0, led 3-2 and trailed 5-3 to earn a single point against the Chiefs. Olynek finished with two goals and two assists in the draw.

Laval-Montréal 7 – Valley 1 | Preliminary | Wed. Apr. 24

Massimo Carozza scored a hat trick and added an assist, and Julien Gauthier, Kevin Domingue and Julien Nantel had a goal and a helper each as the Rousseau Royal converted a touchdown for the second day in a row.

Sault Ste. Marie 4 – Red Deer 3 | Preliminary | Tue. Apr. 23

Jaren Bellini, Matt Pinder and Devin Shell each had a goal and an assist, and Brian Kment made 47 saves as the North Stars held off a late push to beat the defending national champions and take sole possession of first place.

Ottawa 4 – Valley 2 | Preliminary | Tue. Apr. 23

Medric Mercier scored a pair of goals on the power play, Peter Sigouin got the game-winner late in the second and Matthew Hudson added insurance in the third as the Jr. 67’s picked up their first win, beating the Wildcats.

Laval-Montréal 7 – Saskatoon 0 | Preliminary | Tue. Apr. 23

Kevin Domingue and Joël Giguère scored two goals apiece and Julien Gauthier added a goal and three assists as the Rousseau Royal used a five-goal second period for an emphatic first win, routing the Contacts.

Valley 2 – Sault Ste. Marie 6 | Preliminary | Mon. Apr. 22

Matt Pinder paced the offence with a hat trick, Anthony Stefano added a goal and an assist, and Jaren Bellini and Devin Shell had two helpers apiece as the host North Stars ended a 16-game losing streak at the tournament with a win.

Red Deer 5 – Laval-Montréal 1 | Preliminary | Mon. Apr. 22

Jacob Schofield scored once and added two assists, and Jody Sick and Jack Goranson had a goal and a helper apiece as the Chiefs opened defense of their 2012 national championship with a victory over the Quebec representatives.

Saskatoon 4 – Ottawa 2 | Preliminary | Mon. Apr. 22

Jesse Shynkaruk scored twice in the first five minutes to get the offence started, Kolten Olynek had the winner early in the second period and Cameron Hebig rounded out the scoring in the third to help the Contacts open with a win.
