IIHF Directorate Best Players, Media All-Star Team and Media MVP Announced

HALIFAX, NS - Award winners were announced for the 2003 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship during the gold medal game held in Halifax on Sunday.

The IIHF tournament directorate, a board of one team official from each of the 10 participating teams participating at the 2003 IIHF World Junior Championship, cast votes and selected the three best players in the championship, by position.

The winners of the IIHF Directorate Awards for the 2003 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, as chosen by the tournament directorate are:

  • Best Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury Canada

  • Best Defenseman Joni Pitkanen Finland

  • Best Forward Igor Grigorenko Russia

With over 300 media accredited for the 2003 World Junior Championship, a group of Canadian and International media were chosen to vote and select the 2003 World Junior All-Star team and the MVP of the tournament.Not to be confused with the Directorate Best player award chosen by the tournament directorate, the media all-star team and MVP award is chosen by the media at the event.

The winners of the Media All-Star Team for the 2003 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, as chosen by the media are:

  • Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury Canada

  • Defense Carlo Colaiacovo Canada

  • Defense Joni Pitkanen Finland

  • Forward Yuri Trubachev Russia

  • Forward Igor Grigorenko Russia

  • Forward Scottie Upshall Canada

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2003 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, as chosen by the media at the event is:

  • Marc-Andre Fleury Canada Goaltender
