2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Czech Republic 2 - Russia 3

RUSSIANS SCORE TWICE IN THIRD TO TOP CZECHS

LASALLE, Ont. – Ivan Barbashev tied the game six minutes into the third period and Ivan Fischenko scored the winner with 4:29 to go as Russia erased a pair of one-goal deficits to beat the Czech Republic 3-2 on Sunday at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The win leaves the Russians at 2-1 and in position to wrap up a semifinal spot, based on the outcome of their final preliminary round game against West on Monday night in LaSalle (7 p.m. ET) and the Pacific-United States showdown going on at the same time in Tecumseh.

Vladislav Gavrikov scored the other goal for Russia, which rebounded from a 4-3 loss to Pacific on Saturday to beat the Czechs for the second consecutive time at the U17 tournament – it beat its European rivals 6-0 at the 2010 tournament in Timmins, Ont.

Patrik Zdrahal and Jakub Vrana had the goals for the Czechs (1-3), who could not capitalize on the momentum of its 5-2 win over West on Saturday night. They will wait for the conclusion of preliminary round play on Monday to determine which placement game it will take part in.
