2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Germany 6 - West 3

GERMANS SCORE SIX UNANSWERED, TAKE NINTH WITH WIN OVER WEST

LASALLE, Ont. – Leon Draisaitl and Tim Bender had a goal and an assist each to lead the comeback charge as Germany erased a three-goal deficit to earn a 6-3 win over West in the ninth-place game at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge on Tuesday afternoon.

The loss leaves West at 0-5 and makes them the first Canadian team to go winless and finish in 10th place since Atlantic went through the 2001 tournament in New Glasgow and Truro, N.S., without a victory.

Johannes Fischer, Marco Sedlar, Janick Moeser and Frederik Tiffels had the other goals for the Germans, who were outshot 15-5 in the first period and trailed 3-0 after 20 minutes. Markus Eisenschmid added three assists as Germany avoided its first 10th-place finish since 2006.

Nicholas Zajac (Headingley, Man./Saskatoon, WHL), Madison Bowey (Winnipeg, Man./Kelowna, WHL) and Jonothan Martin (Winnipeg, Man./Kootenay, WHL) scored for West, which finished 10th for the first time ever; its previous worst was ninth in 2004 in St. John’s, N.L.
