Canada loses to Slovakia in Shootout. Slovakia wins first ever Hungarian Cup

Budapest, Hungary – Team Canada lost in a shootout tonight in the final game of the Hungarian Cup.  The two teams played scoreless hockey until the 16:23 mark of the third period when Frank Banham tipped a Jame Pollock slapshot on the power play to take a 1-0 lead.

The Slovaks answered back when Ladislav Nagy scored to tie the game.  The two teams were scoreless in OT and the Slovaks scored twice in the shootout to win the first ever Hungarian Cup.

Steve Passmore was Canada’s player of the game stopping 47 or 48 shots he faced.  Team Canada was comprised of Canadians playing professional hockey in Europe while the Slovaks featured 12 NHL locked out players.  Team Canada will now prepare for the World Championship having completed 4 International tournaments using 76 different players.
