2007 IIHF Ice Hockey Junior World Championship

Russia 2 – Canada 4

CANADA TAKES THIRD STAIGHT GOLD MEDAL

by Alan Adams

LEKSAND, Sweden – Color Canada gold, again.

Canada's National Junior Team won its third straight World Junior Hockey Championship gold medal Friday, beating Russia 4-2, and in the process ran its record over the last three world junior tournaments to 18-0.

The Canadians played their best game of the World Junior Hockey Championship and led 4-0 at one point. The Canadian forwards who had been criticized for not scoring provided all the goals, with Andrew Cogliano, Bryan Little, Jonathan Toews and Brad Marchand scoring.

Goalie Carey Price made a huge breakaway save when the Canadians led 4-2 early in the third period.

Price was named the tournament MVP and he also won the honours as the top goalie.

Price, Toews and defenceman Kristopher Letang were named to the tournament All-Star Team.

Canada has now beat Russia three straight times in getting a "three-peat" atop the world junior podium and they have outscored them 15-2.
