Hockey Canada Coaching

Maintaining your coaching certification

NCCP hockey coaches are required to maintain their certification status by obtaining professional development (PD) points. PD points can be earned through a number of activities such as:

  • National sport organization (NSO) and provincial sport organization (PSO) conferences and workshops
  • eHockey modules
  • NCCP workshops
  • Coach mentorship programs
  • Judging
  • Facilitation courses
  • Completing work with committees
  • Being an active coach

Certified hockey coaches have five years to obtain a specified number of credits in order to maintain their certification status. Download the NCCP Certification Maintenance Policy, which lists Hockey Canada approved maintenance programs and their point values.

In most cases, hockey coaches are already earning their required PD points. Maintenance of certification status is simply a means of tracking these points and recognizing coaches for their efforts. To see an up-to-date record of your PD points, log into your profile on The Locker.
