Whether it’s supporting Canada’s winter game from the grassroots to the international stage, providing gas vouchers to healthcare heroes across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic or lending its support to mental health, Esso is committed to Canada, and to Canadians.

Through its #FuelWhatMatters program, and with assistance from Team Canada alumni Bo Horvat and Hayley Wickenheiser, Esso donated $5 for every download of its Speedpass+ app from Oct. 14-28 to mental health programs from coast to coast to coast. The donation goal of $140,000 – in honour of the 140th anniversary of Imperial Oil in 2020 – was reached and funds will be donated to 14 organizations.

“We are proud to be collaborating with our hockey partners and operating communities to lower the stigma around mental health challenges,” said Laura Bishop, communications and community investment manager with Imperial Oil. “Thank you to Canadians who stepped up to #FuelWhatMatters and helped us take action to support mental health resources and networks in communities across Canada.”

The organizations, which will receive $10,000 each, include:

• Canadian Mental Health Association (Sarnia, Ont.)
• Child Adolescent and Family Mental Health
• Community Addiction and Mental Health Services of Haldimand and Norfolk
• Reach Out Centre for Kids
• Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre
• Wood’s Homes (Fort McMurray, Alta.)
• Charter Community of K'asho Got'ine (Fort Good Hope, N.W.T.)
• Distress Centre Calgary
• Atlantic Wellness
• Dollar A Day Foundation
• Phoenix Youth Programs
• L’Âtre de Sept-Ïles
• True North Youth Foundation – Project 11
• Haven Society – PEACE
