Canada 2 - United States 1 Series vs USA Students from five local schools filled the stands of the Bell Sensplex Friday morning to support their nation’s sledge hockey team in the first game of the International Sledge Hockey Showdown series between Team Canada and Team USA. Many came decked out in Canadian gear, face paint, ball caps and caring signs supporting their home team. Assistant coach Mark Gallant opened the game with a presentation to the Kanata Bell Sensplex of a framed Canadian Men’s Sledge Hockey Team jersey to be displayed at the arena. The audience kept the energy up throughout the first period chanting for Team Canada. With just over ten minutes left on the clock in the second period, Canada’s Greg Westlake scored the first goal of the game with assists going to Graeme Murray and Billy Bridges. Canada’s 1-0 lead held up until late in the second period. With less than two minutes on the clock Kip St-Germaine scored the first and only goal of the game for Team USA, rounding off the period with a 1-1 score. Fifty seconds into the third period, Westlake scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Bradley Bowden, giving Canada the lead again. Canada held its ground throughout the final period for a 2-1 victory.
