CANADA CONCLUDES CAMP WITH LOSS TO MONCTON

MONCTON, NB – Cherie Piper (Scarborough, ON/Calgary, WWHL), Carla MacLeod (Calgary, AB/Calgary, WWHL) and Caroline Ouellette (Montreal, QC/Montreal, CWHL) were all stopped in a shootout as Canada’s National Women’s Team lost 3-2 to the Moncton Flyers Midget AAA boys team on Monday afternoon at the Kay Arena.

Canada completed its October training camp with a 2-1-0-1 record against local Midget AAA teams.
Monday’s game was scoreless after 20 minutes. But the Flyers got things going with two goals in eight seconds early in the second period, as Allain Saulnier and Christian Garland both beat Kim St-Pierre (Chateauguay, QC/Montreal, CWHL).

Canada quickly got back in the game when Jayna Hefford (Kingston, ON/Brampton, CWHL) tipped in a wrist shot by Ouellette to make it 2-1.

Canada would tie the game at 8:55 of the third period on the power play. Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, QC/Dawson College, CEGEP) took a pass from Tessa Bonhomme (Sudbury, ON/Calgary, WWHL) and quickly snapped a shot over the shoulder of Moncton’s Scott Cale.

Moncton, though, would prevail in the shootout, as Pierre Durepos wired a shot past St-Pierre.
Canada’s National Women’s Team will now look forward to the 4 Nations Cup, which will be held November 4-9 in Lake Placid, NY.
