Make it five in a row! For the fifth consecutive year, Canada has won the gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship, scoring in the game’s first minute to spark a golden victory over Sweden on Monday night.
Jordan Eberle and John Tavares scored in the shootout as Canada advanced to its eighth straight gold medal game with a 6-5 victory over Russia on Saturday. Eberle’s goal with less than six seconds to go forced the extra time.
John Tavares scored a hat trick to tie the all-time Canadian World Junior goal-scoring record as Canada clinched a spot in the semifinals with a 7-4 win over the United States. The Canadians erased a three-goal deficit to earn the victory.
