ONTARIO RED WINS GROUP A, WILL FACE MANITOBA IN SEMIS

NAPANEE, ON – Ontario Red has run the table in Group A and, in the process, moved on to the semi-finals at the 2008 National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

Ally Tarr (London, ON/Bluewater Hawks, PWHL) and Bryanna Farris (Carleton Place, ON/Ottawa Senators, PWHL) scored first period goals to set Ontario Red on its way to a 6-2 win over Saskatchewan on Friday night. It was the final preliminary game for both teams.

Ontario Red will now face Manitoba in one of Saturday’s semi-finals. The other semi-final will feature Quebec, the winner of Group B, and Ontario Blue.

Kelly Terry (Whitby, ON/Whitby Wolves, PWHL) and Jamie Lee Rattray (Ottawa, ON/Ottawa Senators, PWHL) scored second-period goals and Rattray and Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ON/Durham West Lightning, PWHL) sniped in the third.

Team Saskatchewan’s goals were scored by Bailey Habscheid (Wymark, SK/Swift Current Wildcats, SFAAAHL) and Erin Heinemann (North Battleford, SK/Battlefords Sharks, SFMAAAHL).

Saturday’s other games will feature Atlantic and Alberta in the seventh-place game and B.C. and Saskatchewan in the fifth-place game. The latter will be a rematch from last year, when Saskatchewan beat B.C. 6-5 in overtime.
