Saskatchewan  3 -  Atlantic  1

TEAM SASKATCHEWAN MAKES MOST OF CHANCES

NAPANEE, ON – Team Atlantic held the edge in shots, but Team Saskatchewan held the edge in goals, as it moved to 1-0 with a 3-1 win on Wednesday afternoon at the 2008 National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

Jessica Campbell (Melville, SK/Pursuit of Excellence) scored two goals in the first period and her second stood as the game winner. Candace Boudreau (Arichat, NS/Northeast Storm) scored for Atlantic in the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1, but that was as close as the game would get.

Deirdra Ashworth (Oungre, SK/Weyburn Gold Wings) scored an empty-net goal to cement Saskatchewan’s win.

Ashley Duguay, an assistant coach with Team Atlantic, was happy with the way her team played, despite the loss.

“We outshot them, we played hard, so we’re definitely proud of them,” said Duguay. “Saskatchewan played well. Their goaltender was amazing.”

Team Atlantic and Saskatchewan will now prepare for games against Ontario teams on Thursday. Atlantic faces Ontario Blue and Saskatchewan will take on Ontario Red.
