Kazakhstan made a big splash internationally at the 1998 World Junior Hockey Championship by stunning
Canada 6-3 in the game that decided seventh and eighth place.
Nikolai Antropov, the Toronto Maple Leafs first-round draft pick, had three assists in that game and
obviously impressed the Leafs' scouting corps, which attended the game.
At 6-foot-3, Antropov is a physical presence with excellent skills. He certainly won't be an unknown factor
this time around.
Only eight members of last year's team are eligible to return to this year's World Junior Championship, so
it's unknown how the athletes from Ust-Kamenogorsk will match up this year against the best in the world.
