DAY IN REVIEW NOTES - May 9, 2002
Round robin play at the 2002 Royal Bank Cup in Halifax, N.S. wrapped up Thursday at the Halifax Forum. The
Halifax Oland Exports (Host) finished atop the standings with a perfect 4-0 record, outscoring their
opponents 16 to 10.
Thursday's first game saw the OCN Blizzard (West) shutout the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats (Central) 5-0. Justin
Seaborg scored twice and Aaron Starr, Justin Williams and Everett Bear added singles helping OCN to their
second win of the championship. Louis Chabot made 27 saves en route to the championship's first shutout.
Sabrecats goaltender Justin Dumont stopped 36 shots in a losing cause and was named player-of-the-game for
Rayside Balfour. Seaborg took the honours for OCN. With the loss, the Sabrecats were officially eliminated
from the playoff round.
In the second game, the Chilliwack Chiefs (Pacific) defeated the Ottawa Junior Senators (East) by a score of
5-3. Kaleb Betts notched two goals for the Chiefs, while Jeff Barlow and Jeff Tambellini each added two
assists helping Chilliwack to their third win of the championship. Mike Richard scored twice for the Junior
Senators. Betts and Richard were both named player-of-the-game for their respective teams.
With no games scheduled for Friday, the 2002 Royal Bank Cup will hand out their hardware at the annual awards
banquet. The banquet is being held in the Port Royal Room at the World Trade and Convention Centre. Games
will resume on Saturday with two semi-final games. The first semi-final game will feature the second place
Chilliwack Chiefs and the third place OCN Blizzard at 2:00 pm, which will be followed by the first place
Halifax Oland Exports and the fourth place Ottawa Junior Senators at 7:00 pm. All games are being played at
the Halifax Forum.
DAY IN REVIEW NOTES - May 8, 2002
Day five of the 2002 Royal Bank Cup has concluded after two exciting games at the Halifax Forum. The Halifax Oland Exports (Host) have wrapped up first place in the round robin with a perfect 4-0 record.
In the day's first game, the Chilliwack Chiefs (Pacific) defeated the OCN Blizzard (West) 8-5. Gabe Gauthier lead the attack for the Chiefs with a goal and four assists. Tyson Motz picked up his second win of the championship, stopping 29 of the 34 shots he faced. Andy Coates notched a goal and two assists in a losing cause for the Blizzard. Coates and Gauthier were both named player-of-the-game for their respective teams. Chilliwack now sits at 2-1 while OCN fell to 1-2. Both teams conclude their round robin with games tomorrow.
In the feature game, the Halifax Oland Exports scored three first period goals en route to a 6-3 win over the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats (Central). Export captain Matt Quinn paced Halifax with two goals and two assists while Andrew Sim recorded the win between the pipes, stopping 28 shots. T.J. Warkus had two goals in a losing cause for the Sabrecats. Quinn was named player-of-the-game for Halifax while Warkus took the honours for Rayside Balfour.
The round robin portion of the 2002 Royal Bank Cup concludes tomorrow with the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats hosting the OCN Blizzard at 2:00 pm. Thursday's feature game will have the Ottawa Junior Senators facing off against the Chilliwack Chiefs at 7:00 pm. All games are being played at the Halifax Forum.
DAY IN REVIEW NOTES - May 7, 2002
Day four of Royal Bank Cup action featured a barn burner between the Halifax Oland Exports (Host) and the Ottawa Junior Senators (East) at the Halifax Forum. Halifax used a third period goal to capture a 2-1 win and their third victory of the championship.
Ottawa jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Francis Walker beat Halifax goaltender Scott Gouthro. The Oland Exports replied later in the period thanks to a Rob Dunphy marker at the 14:11 mark sending the two teams to the dressing rooms tied at one. No scoring in the second period set the stage for Tyler Durham's game winner at the 5:58 mark of the final frame. Gouthro made 26 saves for the win and was named Halifax's player-of-the-game. Colin Nicholson took the honours for the Junior Senators. Halifax still remains unbeaten at 3-0 while Ottawa fell to 1-2.
Day five of the 2002 Royal Bank Cup goes Wednesday with the OCN Blizzard facing the Chilliwack Chiefs at 2:00 pm, followed by the Halifax Oland Exports hosting the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats at 7:00 pm. All games are being played at the Halifax Forum.
DAY IN REVIEW NOTES - May 6, 2002
Another exciting day has come and gone at the 2002 Royal Bank Cup in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Monday's action
saw the Chilliwack Chiefs and the OCN Blizzard pick up their first victories of the championship.
The day's first game had the Chilliwack Chiefs defeating the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats 9-2. Jeff Tambellini scored four times in the Chiefs' win and was named player-of-the-game for Chilliwack. Tyson Motz made 28 saves to record the victory between the pipes for the Chiefs. Scott Ransom, who was named the Sabrecats' player-of-the-game, collected a goal and added an assist in a losing cause. The Chiefs improved to 1-1 while Rayside Balfour remains winless at 0-2.
DAY IN REVIEW NOTES - May 5, 2002
Day two is now in the books at the 2002 Royal Bank Cup. Two hard-hitting games were played today at the
Halifax Forum and the host team from Halifax currently sits atop the standings with two wins.
In game one, the Ottawa Junior Senators came from behind to defeat the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats 4-3. Alex
Goupil scored two for the Junior Senators, pacing them to victory while Luc Bergeron made 36 saves to record
the win. Rob Dmytruk had two assists in a losing cause for the Sabrecats. Goupil was named player-of-the-game
for Ottawa with Jason Michelutti receiving the award for Rayside Balfour.

The 2002 Royal Bank Cup is underway in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The championship kicked off with an exciting
opening game between the Halifax Oland Exports (Host) and the Chilliwack Chiefs (Pacific), with the Oland
Exports coming out on top 4-3 in front of 2,246 fans at the Halifax Forum.
Day two of the 2002 Royal Bank Cup begins tomorrow with the Ottawa Junior Senators facing off against the
Rayside Balfour Sabrecats at 2:00 pm. Sunday's feature game will have the Oland Exports hosting the OCN
